I got to the launching spot (257L) this morning about 5:30a. I unloaded the boat and sat in the truck while the storm blew by hoping that it would clear enough to get in some fishing. It rained pretty good where I was and finally cleared around 7:30a.

I found some reds tight up against the shore but only where there were big shell humps, almost like a cut bank. I found the first couple by spooking them.

I got a couple of blow ups and caught a rat. When I moved down the shoreline, my topwater got smoked by a slot red. He spit it. I let it lay, twitched it again and it was on. Got a mini sleigh ride in the kayak and brought him in. (couldn't quite catch, paddle and take a photo at the same time). Red was 24" with broad shoulders.

By the time I got to the slough leading to Nick's Lake, the storms were coming up again so I started back across the bay. Got back to the truck at 12:30p, packed up and headed home. I planned to stay all day but I didn't want to fool with the lightning.

All in all a good day. Caught a rat, a speck and one keeper red. Had a number of blow ups. Caught everything on a chrome/blue Super Spook jr, never threw anything else all day.

Honestly, I wasnt looking early. I did see a few when I was in nicks lake but it was late morning by then and they were scattered singles and doubles.
