  • San Luis Pass

I launched at the County Park at the pass Thursday hoping to fish the pass and was greeted by a chocolate milkshake as far as I could see. I was afraid that the high winds had riled the surf zone and sucked it up into the bay - and that fear appeared well grounded.

I found fairly decent water at the extreme south end of Christmas and there were a few specs and sandies there. I then moved back into Bastrop and found streaks of decent water but very few fish.

Anyone try the pass this weekend? Just wondering how long the trashed out water is going to persist. Anyone been into Chocolate lately? Last time I was in it was pretty much drinking water. Hopefully the salt has moved back in by now.

I was gonna launch from sea isle this morning but the impeller on my boat disagreed with me! The water at the marina looked pretty clear. But that was at the marina.

I was out last Thursday as well, same luck. To me it seemed as the tides didn't move that much and the chocolate sundae water didn't help much. Fished bastrop and a few spots in Christmas, no luck. Anyways I'll be back at it again soon.

I fished chocolate and did decent a few weeks ago, have not been back since due to the rough wind. I usually can get chocolate to produce all summer when the tides are right.

Had a decent day yesterday morning. Nothing to write home about but caught a decent amount of 15"-16" trout along with a ladyfish that wanted to play. Drifted the shell near the channel close to the shoreline that goes to Hall's Lake. Water was a pretty good color.

I was in Chocolate yesterday afternoon - lots of wind and not many fish. Tide was quite low and water was not horrible but not great either. I picked up one very nice red in the lee side of the first large bay (going outbound) on a gulp shrimp. Tried the shoreline near entrance to Halls Lake but the water was pretty off color and I left without picking anything up. Saw a few flocks of birds working in the evening but left them alone. Talked to a couple of guys at the launch who had limited on reds on live finger mullet at a place I thought they called Warden's or Warren's Camp - anybody know where that might be? Late in the evening I picked up a couple of small specks wading along the edge of the ship channel. Nasty wade!!

I have done pretty good in Chocolate in the winter but have not fished it much in the summer and haven't had much luck so far in the heat. Do the fish move to the deeper (cooler?) water along the ship channel or in the southern part of the bay? They sure don't seem to be in the same places that I find them in the winter!
