Ok I am going to go all eminem (8 mile battle) on Chip and talk all the crap so he can't. He caught the first, most, and biggest. I only caught one trout, and can't back up a trailer yet to save my life. Somehow I can get it in a driveway easier than backing it up to the ramp. I can drive the boat, and trailer the boat though however. No I did not forget any plugs or crash in to anything. Could have been worse though. David caught a 6" sand trout and tried trolling with 2 rods...Pics to follow and if Chip posts up the video of me trying to back up the trailer to the ramp for the first time everyone can get a good laugh. Hopefully he got the good part where I told the guy on the shore talking crap to STFU and go back so soaking his dead shrimp. There you go Chip add something to the story.....:dita:

Great job getting it out there before I got a chance to give you S__T........The guys at the ramp were giving him a lot of crap about not being able to back the trailer. One of them even asked if Jeremy wanted him to come back it for him.
The boat did well and we ran around quite a bit. We probably could have caught more fish if we had stayed where we were, but wanted to run the boat and check performance in different situations.
I just really enjoyed the look on his face when I put the first fish in his boat (again) and then the look on his face when he got out of the truck after about 15 attempts to get the trailer in the water. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get the videos to load, so I will try at work tomorrow.

Notice the fog in the background. It stayed foggy all morning.

I did. I bet my sister can back a trailer better than you :LMAO: The hard trailers are the jet ski ones... (single) they like to move all over the place. Double axle trailer is where you need to practice then you move single axle all over place maybe even do figure eights :D

No doubt about it. The first time backing up a trailer can be complicated, especially if you have a bait soaking audience, therefore the video Chip has can be instructional for all of us. This should be a good thing for learning purposes, educating, etc....

Chip backed it down to the water. I was backing up an empty trailer when we were done fishing so the decal was not in the way.

put some guide post on the trailer so you can what the trailer is doing when empty. go practice in an empty parking lot. try backing it in a parking spot like it was the boat ramp. you will get it one day. :D

I have seen the video and that will get better the more confident you become, then you mess something up and loose the aforementioned confidence. Just remember most accidents happen at the boat ramp. So all fun aside keep your cool and do things at your pace and practice safety.... nice boat and tight lines

Robalo
February 22nd, 2010, 06:01 PM
Hey Jeremy-at least you didn't jam the boat sideways like a couple I had to help at the Jam Beach ramp-how they got it so jacknifed that rear corner of boat was against concrete side and tongue jammed into other side I'll never know. Finally they had it so we could unhook trailer and swing boat around then re-hook and pull out-I think they were stuck for over an hour so don't feel too bad-there's other's that will never get it-you certainly will. Try a fifth wheeler in a fenced deer camp sometime!! I couldn't for the life of me get that sungun outta there-took a real experienced driver of fifth wheeler trailer to do it and he took about 30 minutes.

Don't worry about it. Just take it slow and make a quick adjustment before anyone sees you starting to jack knife.

It will be awkward a couple of times, then you'll gain confidence.....

Some days I can whip it right in there. Others, it takes me a couple of times. It's in the karma.

I was thinking about going super early sunday morning to the ramp and practicing a few times before I head out. My original plan was Saturday night but I am sure there will be a ton of people there because everyone parks at the ramp now to go to Outriggers. Maybe I will bring my paintball gun this time in case there are any people out there looking for a laugh!! I think I would have handled it better if the guys talking crap actually had a boat and were not talking crap while soaking dead bait in 2' of water.

Congratulations on the boat !! Go for it... keep practicing and get help learning the bays. I got MY FIRST boat in 2005 and haven't used it much until 2009 when I determined to learn to back up, launch, retreive and get people to help me learn the bays and not get piled up on a reef---I'm 60 years old and not far ahead of you on the learning curve, so don't feel bad and don't be intimidated by the challenge. Everyone starts at the beginning, man. By the way , the guys here are the most helpful for this than anywhere. :)
