Where has the Top Water Bite gone?
We have not been able to get any top water action at all lately. Looking at my records from past years and we have had success in January on top. I don’t know if the extreme cold snap had anything to do with it or not. We are finding fish but only using plastics slow on the bottom.
Today we got Jerry out for the first time in a couple of months. He is battling an elbow injury and has been anxious to get back at it. We started out throwing tops as usual but to no avail again today.
We got out after sun up and missed part of the early morning bite. We were on them as soon as we got to our first spot. We boated most of our fish within the first hour. We moved to several other spots and picked up a few more. We released one 22”er and several under sized ones.
We ended up keeping 7 from 16” to 21”. They hit on the bottom, slow (as usual) and we used a variety of colors.
