We're heading out to assess the damage and begin to make plans on what to do. If anyone wants to buddy boat out there to Titlum-Tatlum, give me a shout. We'll be leaving the ramp at Bastrop Bayou and 2004 on Sunday at around 8:30am. My number is 979-215-1755. - Sandy

Wow... sorry to hear about it Coach... if there is anything we can do to help let us know... We all have shallow water boats and can easily ferry supplies over from the mainland...

Before we do anything, we need to clean the place up and out. It is a total loss as a living space for the moment. 2 of the rooms could be liveable pretty soon with just a bunch of clean up. But it really makes sense just to get everything out so it isn't in the way anymore. We're planning to just take the roof off and redo the whole thing.
My first issue is my boat is giving me trouble. I'm hoping to get it to a Merc mechanic later this week. If it costs more than a few hundred bucks, I may be out of a boat for a while. I love my old Ugly Mudda. If I won the lotto, I wouldn't buy another boat, but I would buy a new engine for it. If it runs into much money I might be liquidating some M1 Garands soon.
The second issue on the list is we have no dock or stairs, so we have to get in the water and put a ladder up to the door. This will be bad juju when the cold weather hits. We need some pilings and stringers. The holes the pilings got sucked out of are still there, so it would be an easy job to put new ones in. I think my buddy found every one of those holes and fell into each one.
It's going to be a long road, but in the end, I think it'll be a better place. None of us have much dinero and most of us can only work weekends on the place. With the blue water highway out, it makes for a very long boat ride from Bastrop. I just hope I don't go nuts this year without a place to go and decompress from the teaching gig. That place made my last year my very best as a teacher. I'd show up each monday mentally refreshed.
Any help we can get will be most appreciated, and I'll be on to ask for help when we can get to it. I know there are a lot of folks that are worse off than we are. As special as the place is to me, and as much as it hurt to see it in such a state after all the work we put into it, it's not a home. It's a luxury.
Here are a couple more pics of the room that got ripped off the pilings and sent into oblivion. Notice the items still sitting on the shelf like nothing ever happened. - Sandy
