2112, what kind of generator are you running for the lights? Loud? Watts? I'm assuming your running a 110V system...

I've found some interesting setups for a 12V system that I am considering for my boat... Thinking about making a rig that has 4-6 underwater lights tied into a deep cycle battery maybe add an extra and tie them together...

Monte, I am not using a genny but I do have a real nice small and quite Yamaha 2400is that could be pushed into service to power up 4 150 hps fixtures in the future.
I've only had the boat so far only one time but conditions was terrible, no lighting system could had penetrated that slurry of water that night.

This is a 12v lighting system. It has 6 100wt bulbs pulling 50 amps from a deep cycle battery with a back up battery, just in case. These batteries are kept charged by the fan pulley turning a GM alternator that delivers 100 charging amps to the battery being selected.

My honest opinion is that so far I have none, I have not had a chance to take it out on a fair night and with the injury to my left leg I think it will be until sometime between cold fronts before I get to evaluate the 12v system. The one night I did have it out though, I was impressed with the lights. The throw, radius and spread seemed to be very good and penetration looks like it will be fine in clear to semi murky waters.

The Flying tiger and sharks mouth pix are perfect. I'll check out the mans web site.
Thanks.

Well it was a 1986 Monark 171CC, but it's missing from Jamaica Beach-probably sunk in West Bay or laying in State Park-please be careful and don't get hurt by it- TX 1355DV. My other two made it-a 23' Robalo CC 1987 Model with twin 115's and only an "O" on the side-I call it the Big O; other is a 2008 20' Skeeter Baypro with 150 yammie. Sorry, no pics. Big O is at shop and will be there awhile-transom and gas tank. Skeeter unhappily is sitting in my driveway waiting on electricity so it can be in its "home" in my boatlift.

I always thought they (Mercs) were "welfare" motors. I have 2 now (twin '03 115s) and 1 08 Yammie 150 Vmax-all 2 strokes. They are OK and act about same as any other-all cost $ to maintain and all wear about the same. The Yammie seems more sensitive to the dang ethanol.

Welp I sold the World Cat yesterday, as I was delivering down to Port A, I drove by Trans. I've been looking for a boat that I can either tow behind my camper or my wife can pool with her little SUV. You have to understand I just about hate camping. I realized I'm smarter then my wife and the others they like sitting outside when it's 95 degrees, I don't. Since we dont' really "camp" this would give me something to do. Well I just happen to see this on the way by and called thinking it was a service boat it winded up being there demo. On my way back through I stopped by and Donnie talked me into taking a ride and that was pretty much all it took. So I did manage about 2 hours with out an outboard boat anyways. I'll probably pick it up sometime next week. So here is "Sweet Pea" unless I can think of a better name.

I went by Trans the otherday with Arsola and they do have some sweet rigs. I really like the quality of the glass job and the detail they put into the rigging. I' look forward to a fishing trip with you sometime so i can see how it handles.

Yeah I was really impressed with the ride of this little thing. This will be the smallest boat I've ever had so I was very skeptical of it, but it proved to be ok. It will take some getting used to.

The new 20' cat they have is the baby cat's big brother. It's built like the baby cat but 20' and it is sweet. I really almost said I needed that one but it would have defeated the purpose of what I was trying to do.

FOF yeah let's hook up and see what she'll do. Donnie may deliver it to me next week as of right now I have no way to get down there. So he said he would deliver it, that's service. If he does I plan to be somewhere Saturday, probably E. Matty but maybe Galveston I just know E. Matty a lot better then I do W. Galveston.

I work Monday night and have to check out a potential dove lease Tuesday, but Wednesday could work for me. Afternoon would be best, I need to go run my boat(its in maty now) or take it over to Bushas in Bay City and leave it, but then come back and we can run yours and fish a little. I can then follow you back home since I want have my boat. I'm planning on getting down there at sun up so i should be back at Maty by 10 or so. You can have Donnie meet me at the Harbor and I can wait for you to arrive. Just some more ideas to think about!

This is my 17’ Flatscat. The first photo is the day I bought it several years ago from the original owner. The second photo is the way I rigged her prior to her theft last year in the third photo. The last photos are how she looks now less all of the excess equipment I took down to the land cut last year. She has been a very good boat that is a smooth, dry, and stable fishing platform. I especially like the new flip flop leaning post, it’s a back saver.

Thanks for the shout out Robalo,
JMac, Nice Boat. I do have the 23 Bigfoot with the tunnel. We all know a bigger boat on the same power will be slower, also a tunnel will be slower than a pad boat.

Robalo, That day you saw me coming from playing in the rough bay I had her pushed 52mph in some pretty rough stuff, winds blowing 20-30mph, gas tank full with 53 gal, both livewells full. I'm impressed with her abilities since I also went through about 10" of water, not on plane, to this hole that opened up to about 5' further back. I had to mark that one "The Hole" and I look to be productive in it later.

So far I've found so many places my other boat would not go I'm like a kid at Christmas and have had to tell myself more than once to go deeper.. go to 2-3' of water. I've been so impressed I've ignored my normal fishing patterns just to see if I can get in "x" cove. It's hurtin my fishin!!!! hahhahahah

Thanks. Mine was dry for most of the trip but I did angle parallel with this 25mph wind once and even as the spray was being thrown away from the boat a small portion would come back towards me when the wind picked it up.

I have to say it's the first time I think I got sprayed on the boat but it was a fine spray and with that wind I expected it... It would only happen mid speed. Go slower and it stopped, go fast and it stopped.

The guys at Haynie advise you to trim tab down and power the waves but I'm a free spirit and love the tabs up and motor trimed about 2-2.5 to raise the bow.

Ohh and don't let Robalo fool you. He has a couple of nice boats too. The one you and the kids were on looks pretty nice in it's own right.

That is a great looking boat! Give us a report on how it handles.\

It runs skinny, prolly about 4 inches, gets up in about 12 to 15 inches. Very fuel efficient, we ran all day yesterday on maybe 9 gallons. Top end about 33 to 35 with the prop it came with, not sure pitch. It is very dry and handles chop well for a 16 foot skinny boat.

Donny at Tran Sport will take you out on a test ride on one if you call him, he is awesome. I wanted black and grey colors, not norm for the Baby Cat, they did it. He also built the windshield to come off, so, I can get it in my garage.

December 11th, 2009, 09:43 AM
Thanks ,guys. yeah, I need that ladder. Several years ago I fished with Tommy Countz in his Explorer 24 foot or so barge. He had a raised consul which I like because it provided storage and most importantly a higher vantage point and he had a similar ladder. I can roll off but the rolling in part has gotten harder. I'm 5' 7", 60 years old, fat, arthritic, and I've fished with tall guys and the gunnels are at eyeball level for me in the water. Last summer I was in West bay alone and my anchor wasn't set and it was drifting out into the bay. I " ran " after it for 200 yards thinking I was going to cardio right then and there, but got to it in armpit level water. I would have had to pull that boat back 200 yards without that long ladder. I designed it after Tommy's 2 foot long ladder so I can reach that first rung in deeper water and railed platform to hold onto. Designed the consol handrails for holding on to something getting on and off the consol. Yeah, it needs to get wet. That's one reason I got on the site. This is my first boat and new NOUTHING about boating or fishing by a boat West bay or any bay or the hazards. My fishing buddy is a yak guy and I have no one to go with , so I'm leery to go alone. But I've taken it out more lately by myself. I'm not a mechanic guy either. I can put a screw in the cooler latch, but anything else goes wrong on the boat, I'm a moron. Some of my first questions on the site were about getting to Bird Island and Bastrop and chocolate. I've fished West bay a lot from a yak, but not a boat. I fished/waded with ZORK a couple of months ago with my boat and he was a big help getting out of the diversionary canal to the ICW. I would NOT have tried that alone. I've talked to Steve Soule' about a tutorial for me in West Bay to help me along. So, hopefully you will see me anchored up in your favorite cove soon. HAR !

I would have had to pull that boat back 200 yards without that long ladder. that's a nice boat. Lets take it to East Matagorda. :)

The boat I fish out of is similar. Its a 25' tunnel V. Don't know the make but my friend found it out in the country somewhere doing some dirt work for a guy. He wound up getting the boat for free but he has put alot of money into it getting it safe to be back on the water. Its pretty much if I don't go to drive the boat, he doesn't go. He's starting to venture out a little on his own but he won't go too far from the ramp if I am not with him. Amazing how shallow those big boats run.

East Matty would be a thrill. Have thought about it but getting there by the diversionary canal makes my knees shake. Fished there twice with a guide and don't know my way around. I'll drive if you navigate. :)

Matty is much easier to get around in than West Galvetraz. Give me a holler sometime if you are going during the week and I'll go with you and show you how to get in and out of areas safely.

Hey reeltime, went out to Matagorda Sunday to test run. Having to play with the prop thing right now. I should be 5500-6000 RPM's at WOT. Had a 19 pitch and got up to 4400 RPM's. Louie at Baumanns thought that would happen, but its better to be low and build up to right prop then to be over on RPM's and still be guessing. But at 4400 RPM's; I was still able to squeeze 37.7 MPH outa of her. I love this boat. I still had a good 5" of freeboard with me on the tower. Boat is awesome.

Nice Whaler!

I've always wanted one of those old Outrages with the low sides. Looked for one for a while but never could find middle ground between a fully restored gem and a water logged project hull.
