changing throttle control from left to right

i was wondering if i can make my throttle control a right hand instead of a left hand on a 1980's evinrude 40hp

Yes you can,no problem.

could you explain to me what i need to do?

should just need to take the center screw out and put the handle on the opposite side and tighten the screw on the side the handle was on if i remember right.

post a picture of your throttle control.
