Here is a post I've made about fishing the end of SR, a very popular and good kayak spot.
Here is a map with some points of interest...
http://i35.tinypic.com/w1g3d2.jpg
1) This is a good spot for flounder, especially in the early stages of the run where they congregate on the bay shores. On an outgoing tide, the first dock provides shelter, and is an ideal location to ambush bait flushed from the bayous W. of here. Fish near the dock pilings.
2) This is a fairly deep cut. Fish the downcurrent side depending on the tide. Good spot for topwater trout, and I've heard of people catching flounder here. Also a good spot if you want to still fish with some bait.
3) I have caught trout at this point at certain times
4) The reef. This is probably my favorite spot. Great topwater spot during the spring/fall/summer. Good for trolling as it is a very expansive reef, and you can cover alot of water. Soak some dead shrimp in the winter (no bait stealers), and you are almost guarenteed sheephead, black drum, and reds. During the summer, if you need BTB bait, chum here and use a small hook and fill up with croaker, piggies, and sand trout.
5) This bayou drain can be good on an outgoing tide
6) This shoreline has given up nice reds on occasion and is good for drifting with an E/SE wind (rudder will help you here)
7) Another point that holds trout on occasion
As with all spots, keep moving until you find what works. Feel free to add in any information from yall's experiences.

Areas I like...the deep gut between the island and point, the reef in the middle back of the cove. The reef off the SW tip of the island and theres a series of guts off the second point.

Great post and information, you da man! Thanks
Friday morning the winds are going to be out of the SW shifting med day to the SE. How protected are you on a SW wind?

The winds are supposed to be light on Friday(compared to the gales we've been having) so it won't really matter the direction, but SW will not be too bad.

What type of lures or bait do you use out there Milkjug? I went out there today on Friday and did not even hit on my topwater lures.

Just use whatever you like for bay fishing.
As for bait, live shrimp is working well right now. The trash fish will get thick in the bays in a month or so and you will be better off using a small finfish like finger mullet.
I've been having good luck with gulp jerk shad or gulp shrimp. The topwater bite has been slow, but once there is more bait (look for surface action) I think they will be a good choice.

Moe.....I have waded this area and it is pretty hard bottom, so no problem wading it. take it slow until you learn the area though. There are some deeper guts.

Great info! I was wading there this morning, birds were working between areas #2 and #5, plenty of bait in the water, I threw everything I had in the box at them, not one bite. I guess they didn't want to eat what I offered. I really like this spot, it's a nice spot to fish when the water is nice.

Around the mouth is an excellent redfish area all year long on an out going tide. Morning Glory sand eels or red shad BA's have done some damage there.:D

When i first moved to League City and before I ever owned any form of a boat, I used to wade the chit outta that place(89-93) After I had a boat I kept going back just because I knew the place. The area from the tip of the SW corner of the island and wade across to the lower shore has some dang good guts, and in the the middle of that cove towards the back is a reef. I've caught more flounder from the NE tip(deep hole and gut) of that island than I can remember. Plenty of trout in the Spring and Fall, but mostly Fall. Middle of Summer is tough on trout, unless at night, but pretty good on reds, especially in the flat/gut on the West side of the island. Go way in the back and theres a little hump thats pretty good to drift across in a yak when the tides high enough. There is also a large drain that holds flounder. I've walked that back cove in late Fall after a good cold front and the sun had been out for a couple days , and found flounder laying in 6"s of water sunning and you could literally sight cast to them.
Now with everyone owning a yak...I tend to avoid the area with my boat except for the outside area. First time back over there in awhile was last week and the wind was howling at least 20 out of the West. Rueben(Snookdude Guide Service) beat us to the back and they were drifting the hump, so I stayed out of there way. We mad a couple drifts in the area circled on the SE part of the map which is a reef. Thats where the flounder was caught. If I could've optimized my drift, less than 1.2 mph, I'm sure I would've caught more! :dita:

I'll give youa shout on Tuesday then, we'll check the weather. I just wish for once the wind would lay, if it does, screw there, we're going to the Pass. My buddy caught a very nice 25" yesterday in less than ideal conditions. I believe the fish are there, we just need to be able to paddle out...well paddling out wasn't a problem, it was the paddle back! :ack2: :paddler:

Your gonna upset those Auztons mis-naming their bayou...Its not Oxen.
They use to be one of the old original commercial fishing families on the west end.
They lived all around the end of that bayou and it was named after that family.
My Grandparents lived up north of that bayou as well and I grew up fishin it.
Sorry, just my 3.14 cents.

i used to wade that area all the time! before i got my little boat. When i was a boy that bayou and the long canal dug on the ESE end of it was a magical place...
There was literally thousands of trout caught out of that canal,(we called Dickies Hole) from the late 60,s through the 70's by folks that fished it which mostly consisted of my family and one other family. It was easy walking distance from my grandmothers house but none of the neighbors fished. Except the Auztons but they didnt use Rod-n-Reel. Nets and gigs only.
But they never seined that hole. They left it alone to the rod-n-reel guys as they called us.
I've gone in there by boat a few times over recent years and its got lots of house built around it now. I couldnt catch a fish.

That's solid information. I've waded there , then kayaked the place. I learned some new info from this, thanks for the report. Also, looking at MILKJUG's map, at the lower left hand cornor of the picture near #6 just out of view is an outfall that leads back to the marsh complex. I have been back there in my kayak when high bay tides have pushed fish into deep marsh areas and have caught all of the big 3. Kayak place only.

My uncle and I went to Sportsmans Rd. yesterday for an evening wade, the was was a bit off color and the wind was blowing pretty good.
We picked up a few undersized trout and 2 keepers, around 16-17. Fish were caught deep over mud and shell on Red/White Hogie Shrimp Tails and Red/Firetail Hogie Shrimp Tails.
There seemed to be plenty of bait in the water. Not too many fish, but still nice to get wet.
